Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. As a young girl, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma was aware that she wanted to be an actor and for many years she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught singing dancing and acting. As early as age ten, she took part and played the leading role in several Stagecoach School plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. After eight consistent auditions producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It also was the film that was most popular during 2001. Opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. The film received praise from critics, as were the performance of three actors. The widely distributed British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma was awarded five nominations for her exceptional performance. Then, she was awarded the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in an Film.
